Idea for Snaiad Flora 01

An idea I got that I've scanned but haven't got time to refine until now. It's for 's world, Snaiad. It's a tree known as the Spikemine tree! It grows on nutrient-poor soil, so in order to gain its much-needed minerals, it grows root nodes that have a trigger. When a sizable animal steps on it, the node quickly grow into a tough spine, and impaling the animal. The carcass did not only provide food, but it also attract flying carrion-eating insects. The spike then blooms into a kind of flower bud that smells like the corpse, attracting the insects. They'll carry the seeds far and wide. If the trigger is a false one, the spike will wither and die, and its nutrients reabsorbed. If nothing comes by for a long time, the node may grow into a main trunk and expands, if there is marginally enough nutrients in the area. The main trunk and the nodes will not use their trap if the soil has enough nutrients.
