Fits with the looks of the silicon creatures that lurk in the lower levels of the megastrcture! What I dont agree about the background is that this character is part of a sub-group among the Silicon Life. I always though that the Silicon creatures were like a united nation spread thinly across the megastrucutre with thier HQ being in the higher levels. If they lived in seperate clans then how would "Ivy" in the 5th volume know that Killy had been killing the silicon creatures that lurked in the lower levels? As far as I can tell, Silicon creatures exist in nomadic armies and small groups but rarely as individuals. So it would be nice if this guy had some sort of female counterpart. Besides that great design, sticks true to Nihie's character designs. If any one asks about the gas mask, just say that he picked up of a human because his internal air purifier was damaged. I would imagine that silicon creatures dont need gasmasks because they already have implants that clear the air they breath of toxic gasses.

Well, his clan is formed through relative geographic isolation. There is no solid evidence of this united nation of Silicon Creatures, but it is probable they had a race-wide information web or network. Maybe an offshoot of the Silicon Creatures are the Karrado... They've got only primitive weapons, possibly because they haven't got access to a source of copious energy for advanced technologies. As for Nephentes, he is trying to find out the history of his own people... how did they came to that particular megastructure? Where did they come from? And as a result of this searching he also became interested in the history of the megastructure itself... that's when he found the gas mask, hidden in a bunker that the builders carried from the innermost levels.

And a bit of info... they live on a megastructure that is practically surrounded by SafeGuards. The megastructure itself is protected by a tract made by the main AI and the SafeGuard, and the Silicon Creatures are wise enough to not tamper with the main AI, provided they can live there. There were no humans left inside when they first lived there (possibly because of a rapid depressurization, and the fact that this megastructure is close to the outer layers).

I like the idea of Silicon Creature sub-groups, because you can make a lot from them. I got an idea of a circusful of them, outcasts from their societies, and hunted down by almost all of the three major factions. There's also an idea for a clan that lives very close to the outermost layer, and they had contact with civilizations from outside the Megastructure... and they are trying to build spaceships to follow these other beings. Fun, wot?

I see, that makes sense! It gives an explination for why the various groups of silicon creatures looks so different. As for the race wide information source, I am guessing that its the Netsphere itsself. In the BLAME art book it said that the Silicon Creatures were ounce humans that were useing the netsphere for illegal activities so it would make sense that they continue to use it to send messages.
