Description

FINALLY it ees done! Took me a week from concept to finished product, including a low memory error that forced me to recolor a few parts. The concept is for :iconnemo-ramjet:'s world, Snaiad. He said he needs flyers. Here you go!

Snaiad Gliding Slugs and their evolutionary offsprings.

-Common Gliding Slug
found mostly in the tropical jungles, the common gliding slugs are from the archaic gliders lineage. Their ancestors are oceanic slugs which can swim real fast. The common gliding slug has two anterior appendages, two posterior appendages that hold the flight membrane, and two tails. They have two air intakes which is linked into the two anus. It has two multi-use tendrils inside its mouth. Their body is round and water-proof.

-Draconis Gliding Slug
this slug is derived from the predatory thermal gliders lineage. Its lineage can be traced to the archaic gliders. The Draconis gliding slugs use thermals to soar, and they prey on other flyers. Because their posterior appendages and tails have developed so, they grew ten pseudopods on their belly. They have modified their air channel into a kind of mini-boosters for emergency escapes. They have developed eyes to see their victims easily.

-Great Mottled Gliding Slug
this slug came from the sporevore thermal gliders, which can be traced back to the archaic gliders. It eats spores, and that's why their tendrils grew sticky net-like apparatus. They can soar for a long time, and they developed a kind of buoyance bladder inside their bodies. Like the Draconis, it had developed eight pseudopods.

-Crossback Flying Slug
now this slug came from the flyers lineage, which can be traced back to the archaic gliders. The slugs from the flyers lineage had discovered how to flap their wings, but this energy-costly new improvement must be supplemented by a change in diet. They now drink blood, and their tendrils have developed suckers on it. Their anterior appendage can apply an injection of painkiller while they suck some blood. You can plainly see that their tails and their posterior appendages merge into a kind of wing. They've grown eight pseudopods.

-Ishtar's Jet Slug
this slug came from the jets lineage, which can be traced to the predatory thermal gliders. Their anterior appendages have develped into a kind of mandible, and their tendrils have a spike on it and can be shot out like a chameleon's tounge. Their air channels have developed into a kind of jet propulsion where they burn their crap. But, because of the rapid air movement, they cannot effectively suck oxygen through the jets. So, they have grown two new air openings behind their sharp-seeing eyes. They still have the ten pseudopods the predatory thermal gliders have.

And the next two are possible evolutionary offsprings of the flying slugs and the jet slugs, respectively; as you can see, both are vertebrate predators. I will make the evolutionary offsprings of the sporevore thermal gliders sometime soon; they are the kites and the gasbags. They too are vertebrates, with some kind of exception to the gasbags.

Don't forget the species that uses its airspeed alone to funnel air through its pulmonary jets, and can dive deep beneath the ocean: the Nemo Ramjet.
